A Failed Test

He slid the papers across the table, took a moment to examine the pen he had used, for effect, of course, and placed it on the stack. The CEO of the medical testing company picked it up gently. Her hand trembled slightly, but she breathed and fixed her resolve. The signature came quickly and now it only had to dry. He thought if he tried really hard, he could probably smell the ink. He wanted to remember every detail about the day he became disgustingly wealthy.

Soon, he would start supplying his medical testing kits to the largest lab franchise in the world. Even if they did not work, his contract would hold. And if he were being honest, something he used to do, the tests were wrong like 30% of the time. Maybe 40%, depending on the skill of the technitcian. But it didn’t matter. He spent millions in research just to go nowhere with it. Now it was time to recoup and relax. The payday was here.

Wrap-up

This one was fairly straightforward. At first I thought of a classic mythical hero, but wanted something less down-the-middle. Next I thought of a certain former president. Too easy.

I got down to my goal. Not much substance, though. I’ll work on packing more into less.
